Virada Digital started big and the workshops are a hit. Rio Lan Party introduced a group of children to the realms of Knowledge. In the same venue, at Hub Dome, adults and children sharpen their creativity under Marta Vianna’s guidance. At Sesi’s Cozinha Brasil’s stand, children from different ages learn how to take full advantage of food, as they cook a healthy version of a hamburger.
Visual artist Marta Viana says the idea for the workshop based on Paint dawned on her last year. She claims the software offers the chance of personal expression, loosing one’s creativity. The goal is to have an exhibition showcasing the best works by the end of the workshop.

Even having children as his main target, visual artist from Paraty Antônio Silva was not intimidated. Used to canvas and brushes, he saw a new challenge in creating on a computer screen. He wishes to learn how to replicate, for instance, lighting details that are possible on a conventional canvas on the computer, besides broadening the possibilities of his creative process.
Rio Lan Party goes on rocking. Kids and teens who have Internet access share space with the ones who don’t. The teacher Ticiane Driele, accompanied 6 year-old children from a rural school. She says that the fact of being apart from the city makes it hard for the children to have Internet access and, often, she uses her own personal computer in class as a means to increase their chances of surfing the web.
Paulo Vitor, 11, is a 6th grader and, even though he has Internet access he is glad for Virada Digital innitiative, which is giving less fortunate children their first opportunity to access the digital universe.
The group of friends Laís Sousa, 11, Vitória Carvalho, 10 and Laísa Alveenga , also 10 years old, used the chance to get information on a healthy diet at Sesi’s Cozinha Brasil. They were ready to take home the recipe of a hamburger made with oat and pumpkin peel. Vitória said she isn’t big on vegetables, but now she has learned the importance of a healthy diet.
Cozinha Brasil’s nutritionist, Natália Barreto Coelho stressed the teaching aspect of the project. “When children know the reason, they are more likely to give it a try”, she said. The hamburger had unanimous approval by the children.
The activities go on all Day long and the lectures happen in the afternoon.
